Shekinah Residential Institute for Disabled (Integrated)

A humble beginning with prayer by Rev.Rachel J. Komanapalli.

This Institute is being run at Hayathnagar Mandal of Ranga Reddy District, A.P. India. “THIS EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE, RUN AND MANAGED BY A PROFESSIONALLY QUALIFIED PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PERSON AND A DEDICATED TEAM OF EXPERTS, IS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN THE STATE OF ANDHRA PRADESH”. It provides free education, free food, free accommodation and health care to children with physical challenges. This project also stands UNIQUE because of the integrated system of education being provided to both disabled and non-disabled children. It was started with just 35 children and 3 teachers. Today, there are 120 children with disabilities and 50 non-disabled children getting quality education with the support of 30 trained, experienced and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff.

Apart from regular school education the organization is imparting pre-vocational and vocational training like computer, typewriting, screen-printing, dressmaking, toy making and embroidery. The students are given regular physiotherapy and yoga sessions as well as moral and spiritual teachings at the school.

In order to develop creativity and build self-confidence in the children, indoor games, drawing and cultural activities are encouraged. Special training is provided in hindustani classical music in the areas of vocal, harmonium, tabala and violin through “ The Music Wing” of the organization under the guidance of qualified music teachers. We are happy to mention that the children of Shekinah have given music performances over Doordarshan and All India Radio and at various cultural platforms like Ravindra Bharathi and Harihara Kala Bhavan, Hyderabad.

"Disability is not a curse but a challenge, help them to overcome it".
